A MEMORIAL

PROCLAIMING MARCH 6, 2017 "GRADUATE EDUCATION DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

 

     WHEREAS, New Mexico has long been a leader in science, technology and research, which rely on innovation from high-achieving graduate students; and

     WHEREAS, "Graduate Education Day" is meant to increase awareness and garner support for all graduate education programs, graduate students and employers of graduate students; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico is a state that celebrates graduate students, their research and their contributions to New Mexico's economy; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexicans call upon the state to attract industry with high-paying jobs requiring graduate education; and

     WHEREAS, the legislature has shown its commitment to education and has identified science, technology, engineering and mathematics education as a priority;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that March 6, 2017 be declared "Graduate Education Day" in the house of representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that graduate programs that prepare students for high-paying jobs that improve the economy of the state should be pursued by the state; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor, members of the legislature, the president of the New Mexico council of graduate deans and the presidents of eastern New Mexico university, New Mexico highlands university, the New Mexico institute of mining and technology, New Mexico state university, the university of New Mexico and western New Mexico university.
