0016| MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE

0017| UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

0019| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
|
0020| Section 1. PILOT PROGRAM CREATED.--
|
0021| A. The legislative council service, in cooperation
|
0022| with the university of New Mexico cooperative education program,
|
0023| shall create a pilot program, to be called a "semester in Santa
|
0024| Fe".
|
0025| B. The purpose of the pilot program is to provide an
|
0001| extended opportunity for New Mexico post-secondary educational
|
0002| students to learn about state government and the legislative
|
0003| process.
|
0004| C. Students chosen for this program will be assigned
|
0005| to the legislative council service for assignments during the
|
0006| interim period of the legislature.
|
0007| Section 2. APPROPRIATION.--Thirty thousand dollars
|
0008| ($30,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of
|
0009| regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure in
|
0010| fiscal years 1996 and 1997 for the purpose of providing a
|
0011| stipend for student interns and providing additional necessary
|
0012| funding for a pilot program called "a semester in Santa Fe".
|
0013| Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of
|
0014| fiscal year 1997 shall revert to the general fund.
|
0015| Section 3. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public
|
0016| peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.

0003| a program evaluation to the legislative finance committee and the

0004| commission on higher education by August 1, 1999 detailing the
|
0005| benefits to the state of New Mexico from having this program
|
0006| implemented for a three-year period.".,
|

|
