DAVID PEDERSON | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| | 0011| AN ACT | 0012| MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO PROVIDE FOR A STUDY OF AUTOMOBILE | 0013| INSURANCE. | 0014| | 0015| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO: | 0016| Section 1. AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE STUDY COMMITTEE.--APPROPRIATION.-- | 0017| A. There is created an "automobile insurance study | 0018| committee". The committee shall study the automobile insurance | 0019| laws and industry in New Mexico. The committee shall be | 0020| composed of twelve members, consisting of four members of the | 0021| house of representatives, four members of the senate and four | 0022| members of the public. All members of the committee shall be | 0023| appointed by the New Mexico legislative council. Of the public | 0024| members appointed, one member shall be a consumer lawyer who | 0025| regularly represents plaintiffs in accident cases, one member | 0001| shall be a representative of the insurance industry and two | 0002| members shall be representatives of statewide consumer groups. | 0003| The committee shall function from July 1, 1996 to November 31, | 0004| 1996 and, upon its conclusion, shall report its findings and | 0005| recommendations to the New Mexico legislative council. | 0006| B. One hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) is | 0007| appropriated from the general fund to the legislative council | 0008| service for expenditure in fiscal year 1997 for the purpose of | 0009| contracting for expert services, including those of an actuarial | 0010| consultant, and to pay per diem and mileage and other necessary | 0011| expenses for a study of automobile insurance in New Mexico. Any | 0012| unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of | 0013| fiscal year 1997 shall revert to the general fund. | 0014| - 2 - PLEASE SEE HOUSE BILL 154 |
