A new section of the Fire Protection Fund Law | 0018| is enacted to read: | 0019| "[NEW MATERIAL] INTERGOVERNMENTAL EFFORT IN CREATING | 0020| FIRE DISTRICTS.-- | 0021| A. The county commission of any county in which land | 0022| of an Indian nation, tribe or pueblo is located is authorized to | 0023| enter into joint powers agreements with an Indian nation, tribe | 0024| or pueblo within the county's boundaries to create fire | 0025| districts within the boundaries of the Indian nation, tribe or | 0001| pueblo. The county fire marshal shall negotiate the provisions | 0002| of the joint powers agreement with an Indian nation, tribe or | 0003| pueblo, which shall establish the criteria that shall be met by | 0004| a fire department in order to be considered an official fire | 0005| department for the purpose of receiving distributions from the | 0006| fire protection fund. The county fire marshal shall provide | 0007| technical assistance to newly created fire districts to develop | 0008| a reliable fire protection capacity." | 0009| Section 2. APPROPRIATION.--Four hundred thousand dollars | 0010| ($400,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state | 0011| fire marshal for expenditure in fiscal year 1997 for the purpose | 0012| of developing six fire stations or substations in fire districts | 0013| between United States highway 666 and state road 509 in McKinley | 0014| county.
