0001| HOUSE JOINT MEMORIAL 77 | 0002| 42ND LEGISLATURE - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - SECOND SESSION, | 0003| 1996 | 0004| INTRODUCED BY | 0005| JAMES ROGER MADALENA | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| | 0011| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0012| REQUESTING GUBERNATORIAL DESIGNATION OF THE SANTA ANA SOCCER | 0013| TOURNAMENT COMPLEX AS THE OFFICIAL SOCCER TOURNAMENT COMPLEX IN | 0014| NEW MEXICO. | 0015| | 0016| WHEREAS, soccer is the number one participation sport among | 0017| children in New Mexico; and | 0018| WHEREAS, soccer is played by a growing number of adults; | 0019| and | 0020| WHEREAS, soccer is played competitively among children and | 0021| adults in New Mexico; and | 0022| WHEREAS, hosting national, regional and state soccer | 0023| tournaments is a source of substantial economic benefit for | 0024| Sandoval and Bernalillo counties and the state of New Mexico; | 0025| and | 0001| WHEREAS, phase I of the New Mexico soccer tournament | 0002| complex in Santa Ana has been completed, consisting of eight | 0003| soccer fields, two of which are lighted; and | 0004| WHEREAS, the New Mexico legislature appropriated six | 0005| hundred thousand dollars ($600,000), which has been matched by | 0006| Sandoval county and private contributions; and | 0007| WHEREAS, the phase II construction will include fourteen | 0008| additional soccer fields, six of them lighted, and is expected | 0009| to be completed by 1998; and | 0010| WHEREAS, the Santa Ana soccer tournament complex is the | 0011| only appropriate facility in the state for holding major soccer | 0012| tournaments; | 0013| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0014| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the governor be requested to designate | 0015| the Santa Ana soccer tournament complex in Sandoval county as | 0016| the official soccer tournament complex for the state of New | 0017| Mexico; and | 0018| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be sent | 0019| to the county commissions of both Bernalillo and Sandoval | 0020| counties, the mayor and city council of Albuquerque, the mayor | 0021| and town council of the town of Bernalillo, the mayor and city | 0022| council of Rio Rancho, the pueblo of Santa Ana, the secretary of | 0023| economic development and the secretary of tourism. | 0024|  State of New Mexico | 0025| House of Representatives | 0001| | 0002| FORTY-SECOND LEGISLATURE | 0003| SECOND SESSION, 1996 | 0004| | 0005| | 0006| February 13, 1996 | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| Mr. Speaker: | 0010| | 0011| Your GOVERNMENT AND URBAN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE, to | 0012| whom has been referred | 0013| | 0014| HOUSE JOINT MEMORIAL 77 | 0015| | 0016| has had it under consideration and reports same with | 0017| recommendation that it DO PASS. | 0018| | 0019| Respectfully submitted, | 0020| | 0021| | 0022| | 0023| | 0024| Lynda M.
