0012| REQUESTING THAT THE UNITED STATES BUREAU OF THE CENSUS NOT ADOPT

0013| A DEFINITION OF FARMS AND RANCHES THAT WOULD REMOVE A LARGE

0014| NUMBER OF THE STATE'S SMALL AND SUBSISTENCE AGRICULTURISTS FROM

0015| FEDERAL FARM SERVICES.

0017| WHEREAS, New Mexico's small and subsistence farmers and
|
0018| ranchers make substantial contributions to the culture,
|
0019| economies and open spaces in communities throughout the state;
|
0020| and
|
0021| WHEREAS, economists estimate that more than forty percent
|
0022| of New Mexico's farmers and ranchers have a gross annual income
|
0023| of less than ten thousand dollars ($10,000) and eighty percent
|
0024| have a net annual income of less than ten thousand dollars
|
0025| ($10,000);
|
0001| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
|
0002| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the United States bureau of the census
|
0003| be requested not to adopt a definition of farms and ranches that
|
0004| would remove a large number of the state's small and subsistence
|
0005| agriculturists form the census rolls; and
|
0006| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
|
0007| transmitted to the members of New Mexico's congressional
|
0008| delegation and President Clinton.
