0016|     NEW MEXICO that a new poem, "New Mexico", by Francisco E. Chavez

0017|     be put into consideration by the first session of the forty-third legislature as another state poem, as follows:

0018|       "An old man told me long ago.
    |
0019|       The Ocean Pacific wets the brush
    |
0020|       That touches the setting sun:
    |
0021|       And paints into the evening skies
    |
0022|       A symphony of colored lights.
    |
0023|       Not like the Boreal, whose curtain moves
    |
0024|       Above in waves; But a Monstrance the
    |
0025|       Horizon holds, And from its center
    |
0001|       Emanate:  Harmonious rays of love,
    |
0002|       That Heaven sends, to give the
    |
0003|       Pueblos peace and rest.

0004|       In such a setting long ago

0005|       God placed upon a high plateau
    |
0006|       My beautiful and Native Land
