MALOOF | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| | 0011| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0012| REQUESTING THAT THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION EXAMINE THE | 0013| POSSIBILITY OF REQUIRING THAT STUDENTS RECEIVE INSTRUCTION IN | 0014| PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES, THE IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION AND THE | 0015| NEED FOR GOOD STUDY HABITS. | 0016| | 0017| WHEREAS, increasingly, children and young adults are faced | 0018| with adult decisions in matters relating to continuing education | 0019| or ceasing education and raising a family; and | 0020| WHEREAS, several states have successfully implemented | 0021| curricula that include instruction in the importance of | 0022| education and the demanding responsibilities of parenthood; and | 0023| WHEREAS, increasingly, people of all ages are shirking | 0024| their responsibilities as parents, not fulfilling parental | 0025| obligations and leaving society to meet those unmet obligations; | 0001| and | 0002| WHEREAS, the public school system has become the greatest | 0003| teacher for many children, a role formerly held by parents; and | 0004| WHEREAS, the public school system is left to fulfill unmet | 0005| parental obligations and thus must be the teacher of | 0006| responsibilities to the next generation of parents; | 0007| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0008| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state board of education examine | 0009| the possibility of mandatory instruction in the importance of | 0010| education and the need for good study habits by students in all | 0011| grades; and | 0012| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the state board of education | 0013| also examine the possibility of mandating instruction in | 0014| parental responsibilities to children in grades seven through | 0015| twelve; and | 0016| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the instruction mandated be | 0017| appropriate to the grade and level of maturity of students; and | 0018| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be | 0019| transmitted to the state board of education. | 0020|  |
