CISNEROS | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| | 0011| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0012| REQUESTING THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL TO SPONSOR A SPECIAL | 0013| SYMPOSIUM DURING THE INTERIM ON WASTEWATER PROBLEMS. | 0014| | 0015| WHEREAS, many cities and towns in New Mexico are not | 0016| complying with water quality standards; and | 0017| WHEREAS, some communities have exceeded their capacity for | 0018| treating wastewater and have moratoriums on new connections to | 0019| existing wastewater treatment systems; and | 0020| WHEREAS, millions of dollars in severance tax bond issues | 0021| are requested from the legislature each year for repairs, | 0022| expansion or construction of wastewater treatment systems; and | 0023| WHEREAS, more water can be polluted than the amount of | 0024| water the state can conserve in a given year; and | 0025| WHEREAS, remediating water pollution is at least as | 0001| important as water conservation in New Mexico's efforts to | 0002| provide adequate domestic water supplies; | 0003| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0004| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico legislative council be | 0005| requested to sponsor during the interim a special seminar on the | 0006| state's wastewater treatment problems and needs; and | 0007| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be | 0008| transmitted to the co-chairmen of the New Mexico legislative | 0009| council and to the director of the legislative council service. | 0010|  |
