0012|     REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY TO WIDEN PAJARITO ROAD FOR

0013|     BICYCLE TRAFFIC IN LOS ALAMOS COUNTY.

0015|       WHEREAS, a bicyclist was recently killed in a traffic
    |
0016|     accident on Pajarito road; and
    |
0017|       WHEREAS, bicyclists are required to share that narrow
    |
0018|     roadway with motor vehicles; and
    |
0019|       WHEREAS, well-designed and well-maintained roads are in the
    |
0020|     common interest of all vehicle users; and
    |
0021|       WHEREAS, roadway conditions and rules that support safe
    |
0022|     sharing of the roads are a central concern; and
    |
0023|       WHEREAS, the cost of widening Pajarito road could be
    |
0024|     minimized by incorporating it into regular maintenance
    |
0025|     procedures; and
    |
0001|       WHEREAS, Pajarito road is owned and maintained by the
    |
0002|     United States department of energy; 
    |
0003|       NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE
    |
0004|     OF NEW MEXICO that the United States department of energy be
    |
0005|     requested to widen Pajarito road between White Rock and Tech
    |
0006|     Area 18 in Los Alamos county; and
    |
0007|       BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
    |
0008|     transmitted to the secretary of energy, to United States
    |
0009|     Senators Pete V. Domenici and Jeff Bingaman and to
    |
0010|     Representative Bill Richardson.
