0012|     ENDORSING THE CONCEPT OF A SUSTAINABLE SOCIETY AND COMMENDING
    |
0013|     THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS FOR ITS COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY.

0015|       WHEREAS, a sustainable society is one in which the physical
    |
0016|     environment is indefinitely sustainable and in which social and
    |
0017|     economic justice prevail; and
    |
0018|       WHEREAS, a sustainable society is one that satisfies its
    |
0019|     own needs without jeopardizing the prospects of future
    |
0020|     generations, in which communities are healthy, safe, caring and
    |
0021|     productive places where individuals are assured of enough pure
    |
0022|     water, clean air, fertile soil and sufficient sources of
    |
0023|     renewable energy to provide for their physical needs, where
    |
0024|     scarce resources are equitably distributed so that conflicts
    |
0025|     over them are minimal and civil discourse shows individuals'
    |
0001|     respect for one another; and
    |
0002|       WHEREAS, the state board of the league of women voters
    |
0003|     endorses the concept of a sustainable society; and
    |
0004|       WHEREAS, the league of women voters of Los Alamos is
    |
0005|     dedicated to the goal of achieving a sustainable society, and
    |
0006|     the league will propose to the national convention of the league
    |
0007|     of women voters of the United States that all individual leagues
    |
0008|     be encouraged and assisted in the study of and action toward a
    |
0009|     sustainable future in their own communities and regions and,
    |
0010|     ultimately, throughout the nation;
    |
0011|       NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE
    |
0012|     OF NEW MEXICO that it endorse the concept of a sustainable
    |
0013|     society and commend the league of women voters of Los Alamos for
    |
0014|     proposing that the national league of women voters encourage and
    |
0015|     assist individual leagues in the United States to study and take
    |
0016|     action toward a sustainable society; and
    |
0017|       BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be
    |
0018|     transmitted to the league of women voters of Los Alamos.
