0001| SENATE JOINT MEMORIAL 2 | 0002| 42ND LEGISLATURE - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - FIRST SPECIAL | 0003| SESSION, 1996 | 0004| INTRODUCED BY | 0005| JOHN PINTO | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| | 0011| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0012| REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT TO | 0013| CONSTRUCT AN INTERCHANGE AT THE CHURCHROCK INDUSTRIAL PARK AND | 0014| RED ROCK STATE PARK IN MCKINLEY COUNTY. | 0015| | 0016| WHEREAS, the Churchrock industrial park and Red Rock state | 0017| park are not directly accessible from interstate 40; and | 0018| WHEREAS, the lack of access inhibits the industrial park's | 0019| and state park's abilities to generate income; and | 0020| WHEREAS, many Navajo communities are rendered less | 0021| accessible due to lack of access to the interstate at this | 0022| point; and | 0023| WHEREAS, congestion in the area due to inadequate access to | 0024| the interstate causes a major safety problem; and | 0025| WHEREAS, a new arena planned for the state park and | 0001| economic development plans for the industrial park make a new | 0002| interchange absolutely necessary; | 0003| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0004| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state highway and transportation | 0005| department make a new interchange at Churchrock industrial park | 0006| and Red Rock state park and interstate 40 in McKinley county a | 0007| priority for the state's five-year plan and that all steps | 0008| necessary to construct the interchange be undertaken; and | 0009| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be | 0010| transmitted to the secretary of highway and transportation. | 0011|  |
