  Mr. Speaker:
  
       Your EDUCATION COMMITTEE, to whom has been referred
  
                        HOUSE BILL 970
  
  has had it under consideration and reports same with
  recommendation that it DO PASS, amended as follows:
  
       1.  On page 1, line 13, after "INVOLVEMENT" insert
   "; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION".
  
       2.  On page 4, line 15, after "receive" insert "no
  compensation except".
  
       3.  On page 7, between lines 2 and 3, insert the following new
  section:
  
            "Section 5.  APPROPRIATION.--Five thousand dollars
  ($5,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state
  department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 1998
  for expenses of the family involvement council.  Any unexpended or
  unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 1998 shall
  revert to the general fund.".
  
       4.  Renumber the succeeding section accordingly.,
  
  and thence referred to the APPROPRIATIONS AND FINANCE
  COMMITTEE.
