Section 31-14-15 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1929, | 0017| Chapter 69, Section 12) is amended to read: | 0018| "31-14-15. WHERE JUDGMENT [MUST] SHALL BE EXECUTED-- | 0019| WHO MAY BE PRESENT.--A judgment of death [must] shall be | 0020| executed within the walls of the state penitentiary at Santa | 0021| Fe, and such execution shall be under the supervision and | 0022| direction of the warden of [said] that institution. The | 0023| warden of the state penitentiary [must] shall be present at | 0024| the execution and [must] shall invite the presence of [a | 0025| physician] the attorney general of the state and at least | 0001| twelve reputable citizens, to be selected by [him and] the | 0002| warden. [He] The warden shall, at the request of the | 0003| defendant, permit such ministers of the gospel, not exceeding | 0004| two, as the defendant may name, and any person, relatives or | 0005| friends, not to exceed five, to be present at the execution, | 0006| together with such peace officers as he may think expedient, to | 0007| witness the execution. But no other persons than those | 0008| mentioned in this section can be present at the execution nor | 0009| can any person under age be allowed to witness the same." | 0010| Section 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the | 0011| provisions of this act is July 1, 1997. | 0012|  |
