0011|     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO ESTABLISH DROPOUT PREVENTION

0012|     PROGRAMS AT HIGH SCHOOLS IN BERNALILLO AND VALENCIA COUNTIES;

0013|     DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

0015|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0016|          Section 1.  APPROPRIATION.--One million dollars
    |
0017|     ($1,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state
    |
0018|     department of public education for expenditure in fiscal years
    |
0019|     1997 and 1998 for the purpose of contracting with a private

    |
0020|     nonprofit organization to establish dropout prevention programs
    |
0021|     at Albuquerque, Cibola, Del Norte, Highland, Manzano, Rio
    |
0022|     Grande and West Mesa high schools in Bernalillo county and Los
    |
0023|     Lunas high school in Valencia county.  Any unexpended or
    |
0024|     unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 1998
    |
0025|     shall revert to the general fund.
    |
0001|          Section 2.  EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public
    |
0002|     peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
