A new section of Chapter 29, Article 5 NMSA | 0017| 1978 is enacted to read: | 0018| "[NEW MATERIAL] COMMUNITY COLLEGES--BOARDS AUTHORIZED | 0019| TO ESTABLISH CAMPUS POLICE FORCE--QUALIFICATIONS AND AUTHORITY | 0020| OF CAMPUS POLICE OFFICERS.-- | 0021| A. The community college board of a community | 0022| college established pursuant to the Community College Act may | 0023| adopt and promulgate traffic regulations to apply to areas | 0024| within the exterior boundaries of the lands under control of | 0025| the board, including streets and highways. | 0001| B. The community college board of a community | 0002| college established pursuant to the Community College Act may | 0003| employ and assign duties to persons as campus police officers | 0004| for the community college. | 0005| C. Persons employed as campus police officers by a | 0006| community college board: | 0007| (1) shall have the powers of peace officers | 0008| within the exterior boundaries of lands under the control of | 0009| the board, including streets and highways; | 0010| (2) shall at all times while on duty carry | 0011| commissions of office issued by the board; | 0012| (3) may enforce all applicable laws, | 0013| ordinances and campus traffic regulations within the territory | 0014| in which they have powers of peace officers; and | 0015| (4) may make arrests for violations of laws, | 0016| ordinances and campus traffic regulations that they have | 0017| authority to enforce, but no arrest is valid unless the | 0018| arresting campus police officer is at the time of the arrest | 0019| wearing: | 0020| (a) a distinctive badge issued to him by | 0021| the community college board and bearing the name of the | 0022| community college; and | 0023| (b) a distinctive uniform prescribed and | 0024| issued to him by the board." | 0025|  | 0001| | 0002| FORTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE | 0003| FIRST SESSION, 1997 SB 505/a | 0004| | 0005| | 0006| February 19, 1997 | 0007| | 0008| Mr. President: | 0009| | 0010| Your PUBLIC AFFAIRS COMMITTEE, to whom has been | 0011| referred | 0012| | 0013| SENATE BILL 505 | 0014| | 0015| has had it under consideration and reports same with | 0016| recommendation that it DO PASS, amended as follows: | 0017| | 0018| 1.
