0011|     REQUESTING THE GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT TO NEGOTIATE WITH

0012|     THE CITY OF SANTA FE REGARDING THE ACQUISITION BY SANTA FE OF
    |
0013|     THE OLD STATE RECORDS CENTER AND ARCHIVES BUILDING WHEN IT IS
    |
0014|     VACATED.

0016|          WHEREAS, the Santa Fe railyard planning process has been
    |
0017|     under way since the city purchased the property in 1995; and
    |
0018|          WHEREAS, the city of Santa Fe wants to incorporate plans
    |
0019|     of adjacent landowners so that future development of the area
    |
0020|     is compatible and consistent; and
    |
0021|          WHEREAS, the state owns the state records center and
    |
0022|     archives building on Montezuma avenue, which is adjacent to the
    |
0023|     Santa Fe railyard area and outside the state's preferred areas
    |
0024|     for its buildings; and
    |
0025|          WHEREAS, a new building is under construction to house the
    |
0001|     state records center and archives, and the existing building is
    |
0002|     expected to be vacated in late 1997 or early 1998; and
    |
0003|          WHEREAS, the Santa Fe metropolitan redevelopment
    |
0004|     commission is interested in considering the future of the old
    |
0005|     records center and archives building as it plans for future use
    |
0006|     of the railyard; and
    |
0007|          WHEREAS, the Santa Fe metropolitan redevelopment
    |
0008|     commission wants to work with the state in planning the future
    |
0009|     of this area; and
    |
0010|          WHEREAS, the state and the city of Santa Fe may be able to
    |
0011|     reach a mutually agreeable solution that includes the transfer
    |
0012|     of ownership of the old records center and archives building to
    |
0013|     the city;
    |
0014|          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
    |
0015|     STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the general services department be
    |
0016|     requested to work with the city of Santa Fe in planning the
    |
0017|     future of the old records center and archives building on
    |
0018|     Montezuma avenue in Santa Fe, with the objective being the
    |
0019|     acquisition of the building by the city; and
    |
0020|          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the general services
    |
0021|     department report on progress of its discussions with the city
    |
0022|     of Santa Fe to the appropriate interim legislative committee by
    |
0023|     December 1, 1997; and
    |
0024|          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be
    |
0025|     transmitted to the secretary of general services, the mayor of
    |
0001|     Santa Fe and the members of the Santa Fe metropolitan
    |
0002|     redevelopment commission.
