0001| HOUSE JOINT MEMORIAL 55 | 0002| 43rd legislature - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - first session, 1997 | 0003| INTRODUCED BY | 0004| RON GENTRY | 0005| | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0011| REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT TO | 0012| STUDY THE FEASIBILITY OF INSTALLING A TRAFFIC SAFETY SIGNAL AT | 0013| STATE ROAD 47 AT THE NORTH ENTRY TO VALLEY PLAZA. | 0014| | 0015| WHEREAS, a serious public safety problem has developed on | 0016| State Road 47 at the north entry to Valley Plaza in Belen, New | 0017| Mexico; and | 0018| WHEREAS, the installation of a traffic safety signal at | 0019| State Road 47 at the north entry to Valley Plaza could | 0020| alleviate this public safety hazard; and | 0021| WHEREAS, La Mesa School occupies more than fifteen | 0022| thousand square feet of space in several buildings in Valley | 0023| Plaza; and | 0024| WHEREAS, this private school is growing rapidly and now | 0025| has an enrollment in its elementary, middle and high school | 0001| classes of two hundred forty-three students; and | 0002| WHEREAS, many of these students rely on bus transportation | 0003| to and from school and many use cars, which enter and exit | 0004| State Road 47 by the north entrance to Valley Plaza; and | 0005| WHEREAS, the Valencia County Senior Multipurpose Center | 0006| that occupies another ten thousand-square-foot building to the | 0007| north of La Mesa School, and the Valley Community Park, a | 0008| frequently used community facility that lies north of the | 0009| Senior Center, both add to the traffic demands of the State | 0010| Road 47 entryway; | 0011| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0012| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state highway and transportation | 0013| department study the feasibility of installing a traffic safety | 0014| signal at State Road 47 at the north entry to Valley Plaza; and | 0015| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be | 0016| transmitted to the secretary of highway and transportation. | 0017|  State of New Mexico | 0018| House of Representatives | 0019| | 0020| FORTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE | 0021| FIRST SESSION, 1997 | 0022| | 0023| | 0024| March 6, 1997 | 0025| | 0001| | 0002| Mr. Speaker: | 0003| | 0004| Your TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE, to whom has been | 0005| referred | 0006| | 0007| HOUSE JOINT MEMORIAL 55 | 0008| | 0009| has had it under consideration and reports same with | 0010| recommendation that it DO PASS. | 0011| | 0012| Respectfully submitted, | 0013| | 0014| | 0015| | 0016| | 0017| | 0018| Daniel P.
