MAES | 0005| | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0011| REQUESTING THE STATE ENGINEER TO EVALUATE AND DETERMINE THE | 0012| FEASIBILITY OF LOW-COST HYDROELECTRICITY FOR THE PURPOSE OF | 0013| ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN NORTHWESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEW | 0014| MEXICO. | 0015| | 0016| WHEREAS, there is a high level of unemployment in the | 0017| study area; and | 0018| WHEREAS, northern New Mexico is a source for developing a | 0019| diverse and talented work force to enhance the economic and | 0020| employment base; and | 0021| WHEREAS, there is a need to attract new economic | 0022| opportunities that will utilize northern New Mexico's vast | 0023| array of technology research facilities at Los Alamos, Sandia | 0024| and Phillips Laboratory; and | 0025| WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of New Mexico economic | 0001| development and employment to provide the work force population | 0002| with job opportunities and full employment; and | 0003| WHEREAS, hydroelectricity is a source of clean, low-cost | 0004| and environmentally safe energy; | 0005| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0006| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state engineer be requested to | 0007| evaluate and determine the feasibility of low-cost | 0008| hydroelectricity for the purpose of economic development in | 0009| northwestern and north central New Mexico and report to the | 0010| appropriate interim legislative committee by October 15, 1997 | 0011| on the results of his evaluation; and | 0012| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be | 0013| transmitted to the state engineer. | 0014|  | 0015| | 0016| FORTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE | 0017| FIRST SESSION, 1997 | 0018| | 0019| | 0020| March 5, 1997 | 0021| | 0022| Mr. President: | 0023| | 0024| Your CONSERVATION COMMITTEE, to whom has been referred | 0025| | 0001| SENATE JOINT MEMORIAL 37 | 0002| | 0003| has had it under consideration and reports same with | 0004| recommendation that it DO PASS. | 0005| | 0006| Respectfully submitted, | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| | 0011| __________________________________ | 0012| Michael S.
