0011|     REQUESTING THAT THE MOTOR VEHICLE DIVISION STUDY THE

0012|     FEASIBILITY OF REINSTITUTION OF THE CONSULAR LICENSE PLATES.

0014|          WHEREAS, Laws 1993, Chapter 180, Section 1 deleted former
    |
0015|     Paragraph (5) of Subsection A of Section 66-3-406 NMSA 1978,
    |
0016|     which provided for special motor vehicle registration plates
    |
0017|     for the consular corps in New Mexico; and
    |
0018|          WHEREAS, the consular corps is composed of honored guests
    |
0019|     of the state who are instrumental in assisting the state's
    |
0020|     economic development; and
    |
0021|          WHEREAS, the north American free trade agreement,
    |
0022|     industrial development along the border with Mexico and
    |
0023|     expanding trade with the Pacific rim will lead to expansion of
    |
0024|     the state's consular presence and importance;
    |
0025|          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
    |
0001|     STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the motor vehicle division of the
    |
0002|     taxation and revenue department be requested to study the
    |
0003|     feasibility of reinstituting the consular special motor vehicle
    |
0004|     registration plate; and
    |
0005|          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the motor vehicle division
    |
0006|     report on its findings and recommendations to the appropriate
    |
0007|     committee of the legislature by December 1, 1997; and
    |
0008|          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
    |
0009|     transmitted to the secretary of taxation and revenue and to the
    |
0010|     director of the motor vehicle division.
