0011|     REQUESTING THAT MEMBERS OF THE SENATE MAKE TWO VISITS PER

0012|     SCHOOL YEAR AT ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN THEIR AREAS

0013|     OF REPRESENTATION.

0015|          WHEREAS, civics is an important subject area for students;
    |
0016|     and
    |
0017|          WHEREAS, the legislative process is central to our form of
    |
0018|     government; and
    |
0019|          WHEREAS, senators as community leaders are role models for
    |
0020|     children; and
    |
0021|          WHEREAS, senators in carrying out their duties make
    |
0022|     decisions affecting education policy; and
    |
0023|          WHEREAS, children benefit from hands-on experience and
    |
0024|     direct contact with community leaders; 
    |
0025|          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE
    |
0001|     OF NEW MEXICO that senators be encouraged to visit elementary
    |
0002|     and secondary schools in their respective areas of
    |
0003|     representation twice every school year; and
    |
0004|          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that senators coordinate their
    |
0005|     visits with the local school administration; and
    |
0006|          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that senators eat meals in the
    |
0007|     school cafeterias; and
    |
0008|          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
    |
0009|     transmitted to all members of the senate.
