0011| PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE 6, SECTION 36 OF THE

0012| CONSTITUTION OF NEW MEXICO TO REQUIRE THAT PERSONS APPLYING FOR
|
0013| NOMINATION OR BEING NOMINATED FOR THE OFFICE OF DISTRICT JUDGE
|
0014| BE RESIDENTS OF THE JUDICIAL DISTRICT IN WHICH THE OFFICE IS
|
0015| SITUATED.

0017| BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
|
0018| Section 1. It is proposed to amend Article 6, Section 36
|
0019| of the constitution of New Mexico to read:
|
0020| "There is created the "district court judges nominating
|
0021| committee" for each judicial district. Each and every
|
0022| provision of Section 35 of Article 6 of this constitution shall
|
0023| apply to the "district court judges nominating committee"
|
0024| except that: the chief judge of the district court of that
|
0025| judicial district or the chief judge's designee from that
|
0001| district court shall sit on the committee; there shall be only
|
0002| one appointment from the court of appeals; and the citizen
|
0003| members and state bar members shall be persons who reside in
|
0004| that judicial district. An applicant to the district judges
|
0005| nominating committee shall be at the time of filing the
|
0006| application a resident of the judicial district in which he
|
0007| seeks appointment."
|
0008| Section 2. The amendment proposed by this resolution
|
0009| shall be submitted to the people for their approval or
|
0010| rejection at the next general election or at any special
|
0011| election prior to that date which may be called for that
|
0012| purpose.
