0011|     RELATING TO ANIMALS; EXPANDING THE LIST OF PROTECTED WILDLIFE

0012|     SPECIES; AMENDING A SECTION OF THE NMSA 1978.

0014|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0015|          Section 1.  Section 17-2-3 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1967,
    |
0016|     Chapter 8, Section 1, as amended) is amended to read:
    |
0017|          "17-2-3.  PROTECTED WILDLIFE SPECIES, <s>[AND]</s> GAME FISH
    |
0018|     <u>AND GAME CRUSTACEANS</u> DEFINED.--
    |
0019|               A.  The following mammals are game mammals:
    |
0020|                    (1)  all of the family Tayassuidae (javelina);
    |
0021|                    (2)  within the family Bovidae:
    |
0022|                         (a)  all of the genus Bison (American
    |
0023|     bison) except where raised in captivity for domestic or
    |
0024|     commercial meat production;
    |
0025|                         (b)  all of the genus Capra (ibex)

0001|     except for the domestic species of goats;
    |
0002|                         (c)  all of the genus Ovis (bighorn
    |
0003|     sheep) except for the domestic species of sheep;
    |
0004|                         (d)  all of the genus Ammotragus

0006|                         (e)  all of the genus Tragelaphus
    |
0007|     (kudu); and
    |
0008|                         (f)  all of the genus Oryx (oryx);

0009|                    (3)  all of the family Antilocapridae

0010|     (American pronghorn);

0011|                    (4)  all of the family Cervidae (elk and
    |
0012|     deer);
    |
0013|                    (5)  all of the family Ochotonidae (pikas);

0014|                    (6)  all of the genus Sciurus (squirrels);

0008|                    (7)  all of the family Rallidae (rails, coots

0023|                    (3)  all of the family Ictaluridae (catfish);

0024|                    (4)  all introduced species of the family
    |
0025|     Serranidae (sea bass and white bass);

0002|     crappie and bass);
    |
0003|                    (6)  all of the family Percidae (walleye pike
    |

0006|     Pomadasyidae (sargo); <s>[and]</s>
    |
0007|                    (8)  all introduced species of the family
    |
0008|     Sciaenidae (corvina, bairdiella and redfish); <u>and</u>
    |
0009|                    <u>(9)  all of the family Cichlidae.</u>

0010|               <u>D.  The following crustaceans are game

0012|                    <u>(1)  all of the family Astacidae;</u>
    |
0013|                    <u>(2)  all of the family Cambaridae; and</u>

0014|                    <u>(3)  all of the family Parastacidae.</u>"

0015|          Section 2.  EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the
    |
0016|     provisions of this act is July 1, 1998.
