0011|     PRAISING TEACHERS AND SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENTS.

0013|          WHEREAS, the family is the most important influence in a
    |
0014|     child's life; and
    |
0015|          WHEREAS, teachers are essential partners with the family
    |
0016|     in establishing the backbone of our society by serving in
    |
0017|     schools to formalize the education process; and
    |
0018|          WHEREAS, teachers daily affect the lives of children in
    |
0019|     the learning process; and
    |
0020|          WHEREAS, empowerment of individual teachers will have a
    |
0021|     positive effect on public school policy; and
    |
0022|          WHEREAS, there are sixteen thousand teachers in the
    |
0023|     professional ranks in New Mexico; and
    |
0024|          WHEREAS, schools are the center of educational and social
    |
0025|     activity in most towns in New Mexico; and
    |

0001|          WHEREAS, parents, students, teachers, school personnel

0002|     and extended family comprise the majority of the population of
    |
0003|     New Mexico;
    |
0004|          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE
    |
0005|     OF NEW MEXICO that it support public school superintendents in
    |
0006|     their efforts to create empowering opportunities for teachers
    |
0007|     to engage in the policy and legislation building process in
    |
0008|     their districts; and
    |
0009|          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the senate support the state
    |
0010|     superintendent's efforts to work with local superintendents
    |
0011|     and their boards to ensure the involvement of teachers in this
    |
0012|     process; and
    |
0013|          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that teacher training institutions
    |
0014|     build into their curricula a component to instill in
    |
0015|     prospective teachers the importance of their roles in policy
    |
0016|     development; and
    |
0017|          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be
    |
0018|     transmitted to the state department of public education for
    |
0019|     distribution to the state's public school teachers.
