FOY | 0005| | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0011| REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO DESIGNATE AND | 0012| DEDICATE INTERSTATE 10 IN NEW MEXICO AS "PEARL HARBOR MEMORIAL | 0013| HIGHWAY". | 0014| | 0015| WHEREAS, December 7, 1941, the "day that will live in | 0016| infamy" must be remembered by future generations; and | 0017| WHEREAS, several states have designated their portions of | 0018| interstate 10 as "Pearl Harbor Memorial Highway" as a way to | 0019| honor the brave men and women veterans of the attack on Pearl | 0020| Harbor, many, many of whom died in action that terrible day; | 0021| and | 0022| WHEREAS, the Pearl Harbor memorial highway is a way to | 0023| provide lasting tribute to those living and dead veterans who | 0024| paid a price for preserving the freedom of the United States | 0025| of America; and |

0001| WHEREAS, it is only fitting that New Mexico participate | 0002| in this memorial, as so many New Mexico veterans, living and | 0003| dead, served in the Pacific theater during World War II; and | 0004| WHEREAS, the state highway commission has a mechanism, | 0005| through the provisions of CP-61, the rule on memorial | 0006| designation or dedication of highways and structures, to | 0007| designate and dedicate highways under its control; | 0008| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0009| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state highway commission be | 0010| requested to designate the New Mexico portion of interstate 10 | 0011| as "Pearl Harbor Memorial Highway" and dedicate the highway to | 0012| the veterans of Pearl Harbor and erect signs to that effect at | 0013| the state borders and other appropriate places along the | 0014| interstate; and | 0015| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be | 0016| transmitted to the state highway commission. | 0017|  |
