"TOW" | 0012| DIEHM. | 0013| | 0014| WHEREAS, Tow Diehm, whose name is synonymous with the | 0015| university of New Mexico athletic program, succumbed to | 0016| pancreatic cancer early on the morning of May 1, 1998; and | 0017| WHEREAS, Tow served as the head trainer for Lobo | 0018| athletics for thirty-one years beginning in 1957, and from | 0019| 1988 to the present, served as an associate athletic director | 0020| at UNM and was instrumental in setting up a school to teach | 0021| trainers; and | 0022| WHEREAS, during that incredible span of forty-one years | 0023| of his service to UNM, Tow shared his skills, his humor and, | 0024| more importantly, his friendship with several generations of | 0025| students and athletes; and |

0001| WHEREAS, as is the case with all great teachers, Tow's | 0002| influence is illustrated by the employment of many of his | 0003| former students as head trainers at other schools and | 0004| universities; and | 0005| WHEREAS, in his capacity as associate athletic director, | 0006| Tow's responsibilities included public relations work, | 0007| fundraising and serving as the athletic department's liaison | 0008| to the state legislature; and | 0009| WHEREAS, Tow played a significant role in acquiring state | 0010| funds for the new athletic facility immediately adjacent to | 0011| University stadium, which structure is known as the L.F. "Tow" | 0012| Diehm Facility; and | 0013| WHEREAS, Tow served as chairman of the National Trainers | 0014| Association and was named a member of the UNM Athletic Hall of | 0015| Honor, the Albuquerque Sports Hall of Fame and the Helms | 0016| Trainers Hall of Fame; and | 0017| WHEREAS, this loyal and gracious man truly embodied the | 0018| Lobo spirit; | 0019| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0020| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that prayers and condolences be extended | 0021| to Tow Diehm's wife, Pearl, and their two children, Teresa and | 0022| Gary; and | 0023| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be | 0024| transmitted to his family. | 0025|  |
