AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO EXPAND THE AVAILABILITY OF COMMUNITY-BASED INDEPENDENT LIVING SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One million dollars ($1,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the vocational rehabilitation division of the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 for the purpose of expanding the availability of consumer-controlled community-based independent living services, as defined by the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973, for people with disabilities. The services shall include peer counseling, information and referral, systems advocacy, life-skills training and other related services. The statewide independent living council shall determine the distribution of the services throughout the state. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
