AN ACT

RELATING TO COUNTIES; REQUIRING ELECTED COUNTY OFFICIALS IN CLASS A, B AND C COUNTIES TO WORK FULL TIME.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. COUNTY OFFICIALS--MINIMUM WORK HOURS.--A county clerk, treasurer, assessor or sheriff in a class A, B or C county with an annual salary of thirty-five thousand dollars ($35,000) or more shall work a minimum of forty hours per week in the service of his elected position and may receive the same health and leave benefits as provided to county employees. The county clerk, treasurer, assessor or sheriff shall keep his own records.

Section 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is January 1, 2000.
