AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN URBAN AREAS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. Four million dollars ($4,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the local government division of the department of finance and administration for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 for the purpose of assisting urban public transportation programs in meeting federal match requirements for federal public transportation grants. The local government division of the department of finance and administration shall coordinate with the public transportation programs bureau of the state highway and transportation department prior to distributing this appropriation. Subject to making a contribution of at least twenty-five percent local match, the following cities shall receive appropriations in the following amounts:

(1) two million dollars ($2,000,000) for the city of Albuquerque;

(2) one million dollars ($1,000,000) for the city of Santa Fe; and

(3) one million dollars ($1,000,000) for the city of Las Cruces.

B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
