AN ACT

RELATING TO LAW ENFORCEMENT; CREATING THE NORTHERN NEW MEXICO NARCOTICS DISTRICT FORCE FOR NEW MEXICO STATE POLICE DISTRICTS 1 AND 7; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. NORTHERN NEW MEXICO NARCOTICS TASK FORCE.--

A. The New Mexico state police division of the department of public safety shall establish the northern New Mexico narcotics district force in state police districts 1 and 7 to be comprised of one sergeant and four agents.

B. The northern New Mexico narcotics district force is established to regulate the presence of controlled substances in state police districts 1 and 7.

C. The New Mexico state police division shall determine the scope and method of operation to be conducted by the northern New Mexico narcotics district force.

Section 2. APPROPRIATION.--Six hundred thousand dollars ($600,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the New Mexico state police division of the department of public safety for five full-time equivalents and operational costs of the northern New Mexico narcotics district force for state police districts 1 and 7. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
