AN ACT

RELATING TO THE PUBIC PEACE, HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE; MAKING APPROPRIATIONS TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR PROMOTION OF CENSUS 2000.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. Three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the following agencies for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 for the purpose of promoting participation in census 2000 by developing public service announcements, group awareness events and other means of informing New Mexicans of the benefits of responding to and participating in census 2000:

(1) one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) to the lieutenant governor; and

(2) one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) to the secretary of state.

B. The secretary of state and the lieutenant governor shall coordinate their efforts in the development of activities and events necessary to promote census 2000. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.
