SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

House Bill 578 appropriates $50.0 to provide home delivered meals to homebound senior citizens in Clovis in Curry County. The funds will pay for food purchases, meal preparation, transportation to deliver meals, and other necessary meal supplies (i.e., trays, utensils, napkins, etc.)

Significant Issues

According to the Agency, Clovis area providers are currently providing meals to homebound individuals, however there is currently a waiting list of individuals who are not receiving these services. The funds are to provide from 50 to 60 meals per day for 5 days a week during the fiscal year.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The bill appropriates $50.0 from the general fund for expenditure in fiscal year 2000. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the endo of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

The funds would be appropriated to the State Agency on Aging, who would then contract with the Eastern New Mexico Area Agency on Aging (ENMAAA). ENMAAA would then contract with La Casa de Buena Salud to provide the services.
