SUMMARY



Synopsis of Bill



Senate Bill 59 provides a general fund appropriation to the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) for expenditure in FY2000 to support statewide mentor programs for children in low-income single parent families.



Significant Issues



The bill is sponsored by the Legislative Health and Human Services Committee.



The Department of Finance and Administration currently receives an appropriation of $500.0 for big brother and big sisters programs. The LFC recommendation for includes $500.0 in the DFA budget for big brothers and big sisters programs, however the Executive recommends transferring the program to CYFD.



FISCAL IMPLICATIONS



The bill provides $200.0 general fund for this purpose. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 reverts to the general fund.



RELATIONSHIP



This bill relates to Senate Bill 61 which appropriates funds to provide programs and services for Medicaid-ineligible youth, including mentoring. Senate Bill 61 is sponsored by the Legislative Health and Human Services Committee.
