SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 266 provides 400.0 to the Department of Health in FY 2000 and FY 2001 for the purpose of contracting as needed to provide technical support to begin to create statewide housing options for indigent persons with brain injuries, to begin a statewide awareness campaign and to support research to gather data on the needs of the population in New Mexico with brain injuries.

Significant Issues

There is no significant data available on the extent of this problem in New Mexico. Appropriation of these resources will begin to allow policy makers information with which to design and implement programs. Monies will also be made available to begin providing some housing for indigent brain

injured individuals which is not presently available.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The Department of Health has an elaborate system of financial control and will be able to administer these monies with present resources.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

Administration of these monies is within the budgeted capacity of the Department of Health.

POSSIBLE QUESTIONS

1. How was the 400.0 amount determined? What data is available to support the need expressed in this bill?
