SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 293 appropriates 691.0 in general funds to fund services for developmentally disabled individuals in Hidalgo, Catron, Grant and Luna counties.

Significant Issues

Services for developmentally disabled individuals are needed in all areas of the state and especially in the rural areas. This bill would supply revenues to address these rural areas.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The use of general fund monies will leverage medicaid revenues and will serve to increase the availability of services to these individuals

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

The Department of Health has an elaborate financial control and accounting system that will accommodate the expenditure of these resources.

DUPLICATION

This bill duplicates to a small extent the following legislative introductions: SB25, SB144, HB137, SB243, HB2 and SB2.

OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES

Care must be taken to insure coordination of these efforts to avoid duplication and additional workload.
