SUMMARY



Synopsis of Bill



Senate Bill 689 appropriates $11,210.0 from the general fund in FY99 and FY2000 to the Department of Health to assist persons with developmental disabilities in the following manner:

1. $8,870.0 to provide sufficient funding to move people off the waiting list for the developmentally disabled waiver program.

2. $1,200.0 to provide sufficient funding to move people off the waiting list for the disabled and elderly waiting list.

3. $431.0 to increase salaries for direct-care staff providing services to the DD population,

4. $250.0 to adjust rates in the D&E waiver program

5. $109.0 to pay for four new full time positions in the Department of Health.

6. $350.0 to provide support services for those going through the eligibility process.



Significant Issues



At the present time there is a need for more monies to pay for services in these two waiver programs for the people who are waiting for services but who must wait because there are no funds to accommodate their needs.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS



Management of these monies is within the budgeted capacity of the department.
