A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT TO WORK WITH CERTAIN PROPERTY OWNERS TO REACH AGREEMENT TO PURCHASE PROPERTIES FOR STATE USE.



WHEREAS, the state is interested in long-range planning for office space in Santa Fe and Albuquerque; and

WHEREAS, the property control division of the general services department is continuing to pursue consolidation of office space for use by state agencies; and

WHEREAS, co-locating offices provides greater accessibility to the public served by state agencies; and

WHEREAS, housing state agencies in buildings owned by the state results in significant recurring savings in agency operating budgets; and

WHEREAS, the capitol buildings planning commission has been researching potential property purchases that would enhance the initiative to guide future building projects at the central capital complex and elsewhere; and

WHEREAS, there has been interest since 1986 in adding state-owned office space at the central capital complex; and

WHEREAS, there are other properties that may provide other cost-effective options for co-locating state services;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the property control division of the general services department be requested to explore purchase of the public employees retirement association and national education association buildings, two residences on Don Gasper in the area of the central capital complex and the unoccupied facilities at Budagers on interstate 25 between Santa Fe and Albuquerque; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the property control division report its progress to the capitol buildings planning commission; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the property control division of the general services department and the capitol buildings planning commission.
