HOUSE EXECUTIVE MESSAGE NO. 7

The Honorable Raymond G. Sanchez and

Members of the House of Representatives

Executive-Legislative Building

Santa Fe, New Mexico 87503

Honorable Speaker and Members of the House:

I have this day SIGNED HOUSE BILL 18, with emergency clause, enacted by the Forty-Fourth Legislature, State of New Mexico, First Special Session, 1999, but have VETOED the following item or items, part or parts:

On page 1, I have vetoed all of lines 21 through 25 and on page 2, I have vetoed all of lines 1 and 2. The effect of this veto is to remove the appropriation from this legislation that provides a salary increase for district attorneys. The district attorneys indicated that the costs associated with the salary increase of 18%, which I vetoed in the regular legislative session because of its unreasonable nature, could have been absorbed within their existing appropriations. Accordingly this more reasonable increase of 6% can likewise be absorbed, obviating the need for this appropriation.

Sincerely,

Gary E. Johnson

Governor
