AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO IMPROVE STUDENT PERFORMANCE RESULTS; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Three hundred forty thousand dollars ($340,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2000 to contract with a community-based organization that represents business, education and state government to assist in the continuous improvement of New Mexico's education system by providing professional development training and consulting to administrators, teachers, staff, students, parents, school board members, state department of public education personnel, community college partners, college of education partners and members of the community. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2000 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
