SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 43 appropriates $150,000 from the general fund to the Office of Indian Affairs to develop a preliminary plan and engineering study to improve and expand the Shiprock Detention Center in Shiprock in San Juan County.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

A preliminary plan and engineering study could determine extensive renovations and improvements are needed at the detention center, thereby requiring additional funding in future years.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

There would be minimal administrative impact to the Office of Indian Affairs inasmuch as the study would be contracted to a professional architect or engineer.
