SUMMARY

Synopsis of Senate Education Committee Amendment

The Senate Education Committee amendment broadens the resolution to include the Department of Health in the processes of screening and recommendation interventions for troubled children. The amendment strikes the original memorial's list of screening questions.

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Memorial 3 resolves that the State Department of Education (SDE) be requested to study the use of appropriate screening or assessment measures to identify troubled children, to examine and recommend intervention programs to address the problems identified and to develop a plan to assist teachers in carrying out such identification and intervention. Also, the memorial resolves that SDE report its findings and recommendations no later than November 1, 1999 to the appropriate interim committees and to the second session of the forty-fourth legislature.
