The Legislative Finance Committee is the fiscal and evaluation arm of the Legislature. The committee employs fiscal analysts, who work on budget recommendations and analyze the fiscal and other impacts of policy and practices, and evaluators, who conduct research projects focused on the efficiency and effectiveness of state services and programs. The committee also employs a team of economists.

The staff consists of more than 40 permanent, year-round, nonpartisan employees and seeks motivated and talented professionals interested in public policy and improving government. The work of the agency is high profile and highly regarded. Staff must have superior time- and task-management skills, must understand policymaking at the state level, and must be able to work effectively and objectively with legislators and their staffs, cabinet secretaries and agency staff, and a broad range of stakeholders.

• Fiscal analysts work in collaborative policy blocks in a dynamic, sometimes rapid-paced environment and are responsible for developing state agency budget recommendations and conducting policy analysis and oversight.

• Program evaluators work generally work on longer-term projects, lasting up to six months. Staff recommendations often result in changes to public policy and state law.

• Economists, in addition to other fiscal analysis duties, monitor the state economy and state government revenue and develop economic forecasts, including as part of the consensus revenue estimating group.

• Administrative staff provide a broad range of support services to staff and the committee, including formatting of publications and managing committee meetings.

Essential

• An undergraduate degree in an appropriate field;
• Strong written and oral communication skills;
• Familiarity with Microsoft software applications;
• Ability to work both with teams and independently.

Desired

• Advanced degree in a relevant field;
• Experience in budgeting, accounting, or policy and statistical analysis;
• Experience in the legislative process.

Successful candidates can produce both quantitative and qualitative analyses of superior quality, and excel at documenting the work, interpreting and writing about the results, and clearly presenting the work to a range of audiences.
